One can choose to solder the drivechip onto a clip. The clip replaces the wires that connect the disc drive to the drivechip, and clips onto the drive itself. These simplify the installation process and prevent inexperienced users from damaging the console board due to improper soldering. However, if the clip is removed too many times, the clip will no longer stay on the drive. Frequently called solderless modding, this is technically incorrect since soldering will still be required. The number and location of solder points on the drive chip is "automatically" accounted for through the use of chip-clips, and such clips extend the range of future possible solutions.  However, many vendors now presolder the chip to the clip, making it into a true solderless kit.

In addition, the newer fourth generation of drivechips do not require soldering; they sit in between the connection to the Wii and the disc drive. Such chips are advertised as "plug and play" and include the FlatMod, FlatMii, Wasabi DX, WiiKey Fusion, DriveKey, and the WODE Jukebox.

Wiikey V2 or D2pro - what should i go for!

Its up to you really. D2pro can be known as a 'high end' modchip because of its JTAG upgradability, which means 100% of the modchip can be changed. The part of the modchip on wiikey v2 that you cannot change is the IC in the middle that controlls how the modchip works (how code is injected etc). So in reality, it should never need to be changed anyway.... The part that is 100% upgradable on the modchip is the 'SPI' that controls the game authentication, which is the only thing Nintendo could ever change.

What is the Wiikey V2?

The Wiikey V2, is yet another modchip from the same team we love...that coded the wiikey/d2ckey/d2pro/d2pro9. It works on every wii on the market. It was produced with stability in mind as there is a gap in the market currently. People want the d2pro, but some people are slightly frustrated with the amount of small tiny bugs the modchip has, the its fairly large price. As of 4/11/08 0 it is also the only modchip to have stable 6 wire firmware for d2c/d2c2/d2e wiis. This means that installation is as easy as soldering 6 wires to solder pads (no solder required on the legs of the IC)

 

 

Another modchip? what for? I thought d2pro did it all?

So did we! So much so that when d2pro emailed us about it, we really couldn't understand why anyone would go for this. Yes, its cheaper to produce - but d2pro is insanely popular and it would take a detailed feature list to knock d2pro off its pedastole.
Their aim is not to knock the d2pro off, its merely an alternative modchip that people can choose without having to buy an inferior modchip from an inferior team. The 'Actel' IC that was used on the d2pro ended up causing more issues than it solved. It has now been replaced with a 'Lattice' chip, which from our tests, kicks ass.

 

 

Wii Mod chips testing

We have been testing wiikey non stop. We have put the wiikey v2in every single drive and are yet to fault it. The 6 wire firmware is amazing to us. Only 1 year ago when the first D2C modhcip came out by the same team (d2ckey) it took a massive 31 wires to do what they can not do with 6 wires.

The modchip comes with an unbuilt update blocker, which means its impossible to brick your wii from an international game like before.

 

 

Whats the catch?

No catch. It works fine with no bugs, and will be supported.

Hello,

 

 
Actually, I just installed homebrew channel to run some jap region game which my wiikey desn't support very well.
And I heard Cios will support more campatability between software boot and drives, so I decided to installed them together.

Unfortunately, some error happened, and none of my backups can be read, only the official zelda TP is working at the moment.

 

 
I installed cIOS38_rev13b-Installer though homebrew channel at first, and use the installer to setup the IOS38-64-v3610.wad.
After that, I used Wad Manager to install ios55-64-v4633, v4113, and v3609.

Now, if I use freeregion to run the copy disc, it will coms up a codedump screen, and softchip gives me Excepion：Loctl error （DI—ReadID, gamma gives silimier error as well.

 

 

Thus I thought it might be the wiikey firmwire is stopped working, I tried to burn 1.9b recovery disc on dvd-r as 2X speed. Tried couple of times to reset and wait for 5 minutes, not working.

 

 

My wii is bought in melbourne, pal wii, system 3.3e, wiikey version was 1.9g before. Hope you can give me some further helps, thanks.

Installation:

Ground yourself properly before beginning the install of your new Nintendo Wii mod-chip. First remove any dust from wii main board by gently brushing with fine dry brush or with compressed air.
Then use the Isopropyl alcohol swabs to clean main board mod chip contact points. Use Multi Strand (thick) wire for Ground / Earth and Power Rails and single strand wire for all other points.
